Sag-resistant ceiling panels are selected around joist spacing, panel orientation, insulation load, humidity, and span so gravity does not create visible waves before the finish coats are even applied.
Gypsum cores, facing materials, and reinforcement serve different purposes. Standard board, sag-resistant ceiling panels, and impact-resistant products should be compared against the problem the room needs to solve, rather than treated as interchangeable upgrades.
A clean finish begins at the framing. Screw heads, butt joints, and cutouts must be checked while they remain visible. Thick finishing compound cannot restore the holding strength of torn paper or replace missing backing behind an edge.
Screw-gun depth is set so the head seats just below the face without tearing the paper; overdriven fasteners lose holding value, while proud heads interfere with finishing.
Butt joints need solid support and enough finish width to flatten the change in plane, because a narrow mound of compound will telegraph under side lighting even when the seam is structurally sound.
Utility openings are routed or cut tightly around boxes and penetrations so the board keeps support at the edges and trim plates can cover the opening without oversized gaps.

We set screw-gun depth to seat the head slightly below the face while keeping the paper intact. A torn face or proud screw head needs correction before the joint treatment conceals it.
